Summer Interns Discover New Insect Species

The three female summer interns of this establishment discovered a new species of insect last week.

The bug was discovered as the three ate lunch in the picnic area behind the parking lot.

"It was really weird," commented Kelsey, one of the bug discoverers. "It had a strange face that reminded me a little of a frog. It definitely wasn't a typical insect face."

The startling discovery of this new breed of insect came when the bug landed on the girls' picnic table. It drew their attention quickly with its odd quirks.

"I remember seeing it and being like, 'What is that?'" said Dana, who first spotted the insect. "It was holding its head up high, and then started swaying back and forth... like it was dancing! That's what made it stand out from the other bugs that usually visit us during lunch: it performed for us."

The three young women observed the bug as it danced away and occasionally crab-walked a few inches until it found another suitable dancing spot.

"It even perched on a stick and danced there," remembered April, the third member of the bug-discovering trio. "We were a little nervous at first because we didn't see where it went, but then we saw it - dancing away on a twig."

As the girls watched the little insect perform, they discussed not only the scientific implications of their discovery - the uncovering of a new breed - but also the religious side of the story.

"Dana and I came to the conclusion at the same time that the bug definitely was not a Naz," said April with a smile. "The way it was dancing so free and wild... there was no way it could be one."

Shaking her head, Dana agreed: "If it is a Naz - which it's not - it is a rebel indeed. We unofficially named it the AntiNazus Insectus."

Sadly, the three interns will not be sharing lunch in their picnic spot again this summer, so their chances of seeing the little dancer are quite slim.

"In addition to missing all the fun of the Unoffice," Kelsey said, "I'm going to miss being entertained by the little guy. He could really bust a move!"

  • This comment really belongs to the above post, but it seems that kelsey broke it, and any attempts to leave a comment, or view it apart from the main blog page is impossible. Therefore, I have hijacked this comment thread to post a comment about her post above. As I stated, this is in reply to the post above, dated August 25, 2004, and titled "Wester Traveler Checking In"

The following is a transcript of a conversation between Kelsey and I while she was on her trip.

  • Aww, you got me all excited... I thought someone was impressed with my attempt at investigatory journalism and commented on my bug story. :( Just raise my hopes and then dash them cruelly into the ground... it's okay...

  • For what it's worth, I think your bug sounds really cool. We should find more, and gather a whole army of dancing bugs! They could do the wave at important sporting events.

By the way, I love the site. You guys rule. :)
